Theo quan niệm của Khổng Tử “Quân tử" là hình mẫu người lí tưởng. Người quân tử lấy nhân nghĩa làm trọng, công bằng, trách nhiệm và dũng cảm, nhưng điều kiện tiên quyết để có dũng phải là nhân từ, tính chính trực, chính nghĩa. Làm thế nào để đạt tới đạo Trung Dung? Điều đó đòi hỏi các bên phải ứng xử mềm dẻo, linh hoạt dựa trên nguyên tắc và tình hình cụ thể lúc bấy giờ. Con người không phải sinh ra đã là quân tử, muốn trở thành quân tử thì phải kiên định tu dưỡng bản thân. Tu thân không chỉ bao gồm tu dưỡng nội tâm, tâm trí mà còn là tu dưỡng văn hóa và kĩ năng, kĩ nghệ. Thời nay, quan niệm Khổng Tử về hình mẫu người quân tử vẫn có ý nghĩa quan trọng và xã hội hiện đại cần một kiểu mẫu “quân tử” mới.
