This paper presents the research results on the production of geopolymer concrete using fly ash from the Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant (Binh Thuan Province) for potential application in sea dike and coastal revetment structures. The original fly ash contained a high amount of unburned carbon (LOI = 10.89%), which adversely affected the geopolymerization process and the mechanical properties of the material. To overcome this limitation, the fly ash was treated by flotation combined with particle size classification to remove residual carbon and enhance the alumino-silicate reactivity. The results showed that the carbon content after treatment decreased to 0.66%, meeting the requirements for use as a geopolymer precursor. Geopolymer concrete was produced using the treated fly ash in combination with ground granulated blast furnace slag and alkaline activating solution. Experimental results indicated that the optimal mixture achieved a compressive strength of 57.11 MPa at 28 days, a flexural strength of 14.49 MPa, a steel pull-out force of 78,780 N, and a water permeability resistance exceeding grade B30. In addition, the material exhibited good resistance to acid and sulfate attack due to its dense geopolymer matrix. The study demonstrates that geopolymer concrete based on Vinh Tan fly ash has significant potential for application in concrete components for sea dike and coastal protection structures while contributing to industrial waste utilization and greenhouse gas emission reduction.
