The paper presents several methods for constructing the Disturbance Index (DI) to assess the level of human impact on ecosystems in Thanh Hoa province. The study uses an integrated GIS data analysis method, combining land cover data (LULC), population density (WorldPop), and transportation network data from OpenStreetMap to construct, standardize, weight, and compare different DI determination methods. For land cover data, land use types were reclassified into 10 groups and assigned different disturbance weights depending on the level of impact caused by human activities. In addition, population and transportation data were standardized and integrated to reflect anthropogenic pressure on the ecological landscape. The research results show that the DI is unevenly distributed spatially. The plains, coastal, and urban areas of Thanh Hoa province generally have high DI values due to concentrated population, infrastructure development, and intensive production activities, while the western and northwestern mountainous areas have lower DI values thanks to large areas of natural forest and the still limited level of human impact. The study also indicates that the method integrating land cover, population, and transportation data simultaneously provides a more comprehensive representation of landscape disturbance levels compared to using only a single data source. The research results contribute to supporting landscape structure assessment, monitoring anthropogenic impacts, and serving natural resource and environmental management toward sustainable development.
